Packing Checklist
Pack Light!
We advise checking with your program coordinator prior to departure, however this general checklist is a great start!
We also highly recommended bringing only one small carry-on or duffle bag and small backpack.

Documents
- Insurance: proof of Health and/or Travel Insurance.
*Note: this is usually handled through your school or organization. - Passport: required for international travel only.
*Visitors to Mexico must also have their passport.
Clothing
- Work shoes: Sturdy closed-toe shoes or boots for working – running shoes are usually sufficient, but will get dirty!
- Work clothes: Long pants are required for work projects. We recommend bringing one item that is long sleeved.
- Work gloves: Work or garden gloves.

- Walking shoes: walking/running shoes in addition to work shoes. Also recommend a pair of comfortable slip-on shoes, sandals, or flip-flops. Bring extra socks.
- Clothes: Casual/comfortable clothes for regular wear. Recommend layering due to unpredictable variations in weather. Bring at least one long sleeve item for layering & sun protection, such as a hoodie, long-sleeve T-shirt, sweatshirt, or sweater. Bring something warm to wear at night. No halters, tank tops, or short shorts please. Modesty is appreciated!
Personal Items
- Personal water bottle
- Sunglasses and/or work goggles
- Sunscreen, unscented moisturizer, chapstick, eye drops
- Hat: baseball cap or sunhat to protect from wind & sun
- Personal toiletries – biodegradable natural products preferred
- Personal medications – bring your medicine. IMPORTANT a complete list of all prescription medications and/or medical conditions must be submitted through the Online Registration prior to departure.
- Due to likely exposure to pollen, dust, and/or animals please bring personal over-the-counter prescription allergy medications and/or eye-drops, if needed.
- Personal spending money for incidentals including missing toiletries, additional snacks or beverages, or shopping with local artisans and vendors.
- Camera including extra batteries & memory cards
- Sleeping bag and pillow. *Programs vary by location, please check with your trip coordinator to see if these items are necessary.
